KARNTIMARTA BRUSH ARTISTS Warralong 2018 was established in July 2009 supporting Nyangumarta and Martu painters from Strelley, Warralong and Hedland communities.
Biddy Bunwarrie lives at Warralong. She paints most days in the room provided by the Strelley Community School for the Kartimarta Brush Artists which was established in July 2009, supporting Nyangumarta and Martu painters from Strelley, Warralong and Hedland communities.
Her language is Nyangumarta and her birth date is unknown. She says she was born in the desert somewhere northeast of Sandfire.
At Warralong she likes to go fishing at Muylie to a place that is for old ladies. Biddy likes vibrant colours. Her paintings are mainly about her life growing up. Biddy says she was six years old when she walked from Broome to Port Hedland with her mother, eating bush tucker along the way. Many of Biddy’s paintings are about her ‘place’; ‘maps’ of her land and the waterholes or wells she knows about and how the water came from under the ground from the sea to the land. This painting is called ‘Ngapah’ (water).
